What Is A Tieback Anchor?

A tieback anchor or helical tieback anchor is a small grouted anchor composed of a steel shaft and round helix plates. The primary use for tieback anchors is to reinforce foundation and retaining walls for lateral stability. When the tieback anchor is properly installed it will pull a bowing wall into its correct position and help prevent any future shifting or bowing.

The success of helical tieback anchors is based on decades of use of similar anchors by electric utilities. They are installed with rotary drilling equipment, where the anchor is rotated into the ground, similar to a screw into wood. The other end of the tieback is secured into the wall. This helps keep the wall from bowing or leaning.
